West Virginia State Flag

Flag of West Virginia was adopted on 7 March 1929. It is composed of a white background with a blue border, reminiscent of the national flag’s canton. In the center are the seal of the State, but also in red top banner, the name of West Virginia, in red lower band, the state motto, "Montani semper liberi" Latin phrase for "mountaineers are always free ", as well as branches of Rhododendron, which is the official flower of West Virginia (many other U.S. states possess one : see flags of Kansas, Kentucky or Minnesota for example). On the seal, we can see two men: a farmer, who symbolizes the strong agricultural activity in the state since its creation, and a minor, which represents the subsoil’s resources. They are sitting on a stone on which is written the date of administrative integration of West Virginia. The latter will ultimately be integrated on 4 July 1863. West Virginia is known as the "Mountain State", and its capital is Charleston.
