Utah State Flag

The flag of Utah was adopted on 21st December 1913. It consists of a blue background on which is drawn the official seal of the State. Blue refers, as on many flags of U.S. states (Indiana or Maine for example) to the one used on national flag. This is a strong sign of belonging to the American nation. The bald eagle surmounting the seal also refers to the national symbol, present on the President’s flag. He wears arrows, great symbol of courage of the soldiers during the war. White flowers on each side are the official flowers of the State of Utah, Calochortus. Beehive designed in its center is a symbol still discussed: it represents the community's residents, but is also a strong representation of the Mormon community, very present in this state. Two dates are also written : 1847, when a Mormon, Brigham Young, became governor. In 1896, the Utah State joined the United States as the 45th state. Utah is known as the "Beehive State", and its capital is Salt Lake City.
