Minnesota State Flag

The flag of Minnesota was adopted in this form on 2 August 1983. It consists of a blue background, like many U.S. States’ flags. On this background appears the state seal. It represents many symbols related to Minnesota. First, the star is strongly present in the seal : 19, which are positioned so that they form the five points of a large star. The state is indeed very north of the United States, and the North Star is its most striking symbol. On a red headband is also written in French (which long occupied that territory): "l’étoile du nord" : “the north star” . The flowers of the state (Cypripedium) surround the coat of arms which represents a farmer, recalling the natural resources of this state. Minnesota has joined the United States on 4 July 1858. Minnesota is known as the "North Star State", and its capital is Saint Paul.
