Texas State Flag

The Texas flag was adopted on 25 January 1839, first as a national flag (as Texas became a republic) before becoming, six years later, the flag of the State of Texas. It is composed of two horizontal stripes at the wind, white on top and red at bottom, and a blue vertical band at the hoist*, which contains a five-pointed white star. As quite rarely as the American states’ flags, colors have a meaning that does not return to the U.S. flag. This meaning was codified in 1933. The blue symbolizes loyalty, red for soldiers’ courage and white for purity. It is known locally as the "Lone Star flag", in contradiction with the national flag, that includes a star for each state. We can say that, despite the independence of Texas from 1839 to 1845, the influence of this flag is to be found in the colors of the national flag. The original flag consisted of stripes and was very close to the flag of Liberia. Texas joined the United States on 4 July 1846. Texas is known as the "Lone Star State", and its capital is Austin.
