Ohio State Flag

A flag is often an amalgam of anecdotes that tell the history of a state.

You will find below the description and explanation for the symbols of the flag of Ohio.

The flag of Ohio was adopted on 10 July 1902. Firstly, it should be noted that it doesn’t use the usual rectangular flag form, since it is not composed by four 90° angles. Sides at the top and bottom are oriented inside the flag, and the part at the wind is angular. A blue triangle is drawn at the hoist*, containing 17 stars (Ohio is the 17th state to have joined the United States), and a white "O" on red. This represents the first letter of Ohio, but also the plant of the State, the buckeye. Finally, the five horizontal red andwhite stripes symbolize the membership to Northwest Territories (Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana). Ohio joined the United States on July 4, 1818. Ohio is known as the "Buckeye State", and its capital is Columbus.
