Guatemala Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Guatemalan Flag
The flag of Guatemala was adopted on 12 August 1871. It is composed of three stripes arranged vertically : blue - white - blue. In a sense, it can be assimilated to the flag of United Provinces of Central America (as Argentina or El Salvador), from where the country derived. The blue stripes at the hoist and at the wind evoke the two oceans that border the country’s coasts : Pacific west and Atlantic east. The white represents the pure values ??adopted by the separatists. At the center are designed the arms of Guatemala : while the olive branches symbolize peace, guns remind that people is ready to fight to defend its land. The bird symbolizes freedom and the date of independence of Central America complements the image.
