Monaco Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Monegasque Flag
The flag of the Principality of Monaco was adopted on 4 April 1881. It represents two horizontal stripes of equal width : red on top and white on bottom. The colours were chosen up early in the reign of the Grimaldi family of the principality, also called the "Rock". These colours have no specific meaning, some think they relate to the French colours (blue - white - red), because Monaco is enclosed on French territory, but nothing official confirmed this fact. There is also a white flag with the arms of the country, but it is reserved for the use of the royal family and the government of the principality. The flag and its design, although identical to that of Indonesia (except ratios) are included in the Constitution of Monaco, adopted in 1962.
