Mali Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Malian Flag
Mali's flag was adopted on 1st March 1961. It consists of three vertical stripes : green - yellow - red, strong reference to the pan-African colors. These come from the flag of Ethiopia, who was the only state to remain independent in the general dismantling of Africa. The colors red, black and green are normally officially the continent’s ones, but they are much less used than the colors present here. The green band represents both hope for the future and natural resources, the yellow (golden) stripe evokes the mineral wealth of the country and the people's will to protect them. Finally, the red symbolizes the blood shed for independence and decolonization.
