Libya Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Libyan Flag
The flag of Libya was adopted 23 August 2011, following the Arab Spring, and the popular revolt that ended the reign of Muammar Kadhafi. However, he took the old Libyan flag, which was adopted in 1951 with the independence and the establishment of the Kingdom of Libya. It is composed of three horizontal stripes : red - black - green and in its center comes a cresent with a white star. It repeats pan-Arab colors, which are very codified: - Black (The Abbasid of Baghdad), White (The Umayyads of Damascus), Green (The Fatimid of Cairo) and Red (The Hashemite house of Muhammad). The five-pointed star is commonly accepted as representing the five pillars of Islam, while the crescent refers to the growing crescent moon, which marks the end of Ramadan for Muslims.
