The explanation for the symbols of the Hong Konger Flag

Hong Kong flag was adopted in 1990. It strongly refers to the People's Republic of China’s flag, since the same red background was adopted. At its center is drawn a flower of Blakeana Bauhinia tree, that produces flowers close to orchid, typically Asian. This flower was added to the flag in 1997. The white flower can be interpreted as a symbol of the political system of Hong Kong. When the city was surrendered from Great Britain to China in 1997, Deng Xiaoping used the formula : "one country, two systems", explaining that, despite the administrative handover, Hong Kong could become chinese without applying the same rules in the city. Macao or Taiwan could refer to the same idea, as the policy on these areas are capitalist. Under British rule for 99 years, the flag of Hong Kong has changed significantly, because it wore, before being surrendered, the Union Jack, as all the members of the Commonwealth.
