Bahrain Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Bahraini Flag
Bahrain's flag was adopted in 1959. It consists of two vertical bands : the white at the hoist* and red at the wind*. The white color represents the old British rule, while the red represents Islam (which is specific to Gulf countries, green is generally preferred). Originally, the broken line that separates the stripes was symbolizing, by its eight white points, the eight countries of the Gulf, but the Emir Al Khalifa gave it a new form in 2002, with five white points for the five pillars of Islam: Muhammad, prayer, Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca and almsgiving.
