Armenia Flag

The explanation for the symbols of the Armenian Flag

The flag of Armenia was adopted on 24 August 1990. It consists of three horizontal bands of red - blue - orange (locally called "apricot"). It is also called by the Armenians "the tricolor." The colors were chosen for their strong symbolic : red for the blood shed by the defenders of the country, the blue for sky and orange for agriculture and natural resources of the country. When Armenia became first independent in 1918, an almost identical flag was adopted, yellow in place of orange. It was then the colors of the house roupénide, who long reigned and ended in 1222.
