Albania Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Albanian Flag
The flag of Albania was adopted in 1992 in this form. However, it is used since the declaration of independence by the National Assembly of Vlora in 1912. It consists of a red background and a black double-headed eagle. The red color represents, as on many other flags, the blood shed by the leaders of the uprising for independence. The two-headed eagle refers to the two main religious communities in the country : Catholic and Orthodox Christians. The eagle is also designed for people's freedom, with its wings open. This symbol is directly taken from the seal of Skanderbeg, who led a revolt for independence in 1443.
