The explanation for the symbols of the Chilean Flag

The flag of Chile was adopted in 1817. It is also called the solitary Star ("estrella solitaria"). It consists of a blue square, surmounted by the white star in the canton, followed by a white band to the wind. A red stripes completes the flags on the bottom. Red represents blood shed for the independence and freedom of Chile, blue evokes the sky and the horizon of the country, while white refers to the eternal Andes Cordillera snows (as is also the case the flag of Argentina’s flag). This flag is very similar to the flag of Texas, where the blue at the hoist extends to the bottom.
