Senegal Flag
The explanation for the symbols of the Senegalese Flag
The flag of Senegal was adopted on 20 August 1960. It consists of three vertical stripes green - gold - red, and a green five-pointed star in the center. These colors come directly from the pan-African colors, which are present on the flag of Ethiopia, the only country to remain independent in the general dismantling of Africa. The color green represents both the hope and, to the Muslim part of the population, the prophet. The gold band is the color of work, while the red, which is rare, has emphasized the desire to develop the country, and definitely not for the blood of the independence fighters, as it’s often the case. The green star represents the hope of youth and the five pillars of Islam: Muhammad, prayer, Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca and almsgiving.
