Iraq Flag

The explanation for the symbols of the Iraqi Flag

The flag of Iraq was adopted on 29 January 2008. It is composed of three horizontal stripes: red - white - black, which clearly refer to the pan-Arab colors. At its center is listed in green, the color of Islam, the phrase Allah Akbar, God is great. This sentence is written in Kufic calligraphy, dear to Shiites. Pan-Arab colors represent:Black (The Abbasid of Baghdad), White (The Umayyads of Damascus), Green (The Fatimid of Cairo) and Red (The Hashemite house of Muhammad).
